Senior Musicians Dinner and Entertainment
In May, we saw the return of the Senior Musicians’ Dinner. This year’s event was no exception from its predecessors in quickly becoming a wonderfully memorable event for all in attendance.
Following the drinks reception where excitement for the evening had built up amongst students and staff, everyone sat down to enjoy a spectacular meal in the Eadon Hall provided by the ever-dedicated catering team. The atmosphere was lively, and the food was quickly consumed amongst vibrant conversation and anticipation for the coming performances.
Before the entertainment began for the evening, heartfelt speeches were heard from Ms Bouckley and the music prefects who expressed their immense gratitude for the music they had been able to be a part of during their time in the department. Following this, to recognise some of the most notable moments of the year, prizes were awarded for a mixture of categories ranging from baking skills to instrumental mastery (the latter of which shown off convincingly in the ensuing symphony of awarded melody pops).
The main event of the night came soon afterwards with an eclectic mix of performances. Starting with a stellar rendition of traditional folk music, the night soon descended into the familiar chaos of performances. The first of which was the percussion ensemble’s tambourine quintet led by Anshul Dani, whose proclaimed motivations aimed to show that percussion was more than just “hitting things”. I think all would agree this was certainly achieved. Further performances saw a chaotic compilation of nursery rhymes, Sax Quartet’s rendition of the classic Super Mario Bros theme (complete with in-game coin sounds courtesy of Felipe’s soprano), the return of the Mini String Ensemble armed with their Year 2 violins, and the collective group sight-reading of Funky Town. These performances showed the joy that music can bring without a need for polished final results and also supplied a huge amount of laughter across the evening.
A number of Year 12s then gave renditions of popular hits including Just the Two of Us, Falling Behind and Back to Black, before the night was rounded out by the Year 13’s ‘Briggs Banned’, who performed a set ranging widely with songs from The Jackson 5, Alicia Keys, Laufey, Radiohead, Scooby-Doo and finishing the night with Wheatus’s Teenage Dirtbag.
A huge thank you to all of those who helped in making this night possible and so immensely enjoyable.
