Loughborough Amherst School closure confirmed

Loughborough Amherst School will close at the end of the 2025 summer term.
The Loughborough Schools Foundation announced in January that Amherst was entering a consultation period for proposed closure. The consultation process ended last week with the outcome confirming the closure of the School in July this year.
Mr Roger Harrison, Loughborough Schools Foundation’s Chair of Governors, wrote to parents and staff on Friday stating: “It is with great sadness that I write today to inform you that, following the conclusion of the formal consultation process, we have made the incredibly difficult decision to close Loughborough Amherst School at the end of the 2025 summer term.
We understand how deeply the impact of this news will be felt by families across our community. The strong connection with and care for Amherst has been evident in the advice, concerns, frustrations and hopes shared since our initial communication on 6 January.
Throughout the consultation process, Governors have met regularly, spending many hours carefully considering feedback received and a range of potential alternatives. Despite these efforts, I recognise how upsetting this outcome will be to you and others across the Foundation.”
Mr Harrison also explained in his letter what the next steps were for each pupil, depending on their individual sets of circumstances. He added: “I know that our staff, pupils, families and wider school community will continue to support one another in the months ahead.”
