Back to Subjects

History is studied by all pupils up to the end of Year 9 and is a popular option both at GCSE and in the Sixth Form.

 IGCSE

We broadly follow the national curriculum, studying British History from 1066 -1945. Pupils currently study the Cambridge IGCSE syllabus, focussing on the modern world from 1919 to 1989. We will be looking at, among other topics, the causes of World War Two, the Cold War, events in the Gulf 1970-2000 and the United States in the 1920s and 1930s.

A Level

At A Level we study the Wars of the Roses and the US Making of a Superpower units and follow the AQA syllabus; there is also a personal coursework study component where students are encouraged to investigate a topic in a more independent manner. The department makes full use of a range of teaching and learning styles and organises trips for all Years, including visits to Berlin, New York and Washington and to more local places of historical interest.
