On Friday 28 June, eight pianists from Loughborough Schools Foundation went on our annual trip to Steinway Hall London for a masterclass with pianist Charles Owen, followed by an evening concert for invited guests. They were also joined by young pianist Sofia Beleva from Birmingham who was the winner of our 11 and under category in the second annual Loughborough Piano Competition. The masterclass was inspiring and informative. The evening concert was a triumph showcasing the high level of piano playing at LSF. The programme included Bach Prelude and Fugue in F major (Hana), Chopin Preludes  (Laura), a mini recital of Haydn, Kabalevsky and Debussy (Sofia), Chopin Nocturne in B major (Ayeka- 15 and under prize winner), Beethoven Sonata Op. 14 No. 2 (RanRan), Balakirev/Glinka The Lark (Emma), Scriabin Preludes (Danushka – 18 and under prize winner), Chopin Etudes (Alexander), Khachaturian Toccata (Simeon) and  finishing off with the grand finale of Rachmaninov Morceaux Op. 11 Barcarolle and Glory for piano duet performed by Alexander and Danushka. With only one of these pianists leaving for university in September, the future is looking great for the Keyboard department at the Loughborough Schools.
