Welcome to Loughborough High School

Head

Fiona Miles

One of our sixth formers said to me recently that here at LHS, we are creating the young women that the future needs. Looking up, our Year 7 pupils see in the older girls their leaders, their role models and their future selves. They see no limits on female aspiration as they watch our Year 13s go on to become astrophysicists, architects, actors and artists, and they benefit from an inspiring and culturally diverse network of alumnae who regularly return to share their wisdom as women in the world of work and entrepreneurship.

There has never been a more important time to focus upon the experience of young women and as experts in girls’ education, we guarantee that your daughter will not only be heard but listened to. Our caring, committed staff are skilled in bringing out the best in girls and in creating the conditions in which girls can thrive both academically and personally. Our pupils achieve some of the best academic results in the region but we see this as the happy by-product of a broad, well-rounded and stimulating education rather than an end in itself.

What makes us unique is that our vibrant, girl-friendly community sits at the heart of a foundation of four closely-linked schools situated in beautiful grounds near the centre of town. Our pupils therefore enjoy a richness and variety of opportunity, mixing with boys and girls from Loughborough Grammar School and Loughborough Amherst School through joint music ensembles, drama performances, trips and visits. In the sixth form, many of our A level classes are co-educational, and all pupils take part in our joint enrichment programme, so that they really do experience the “best of both” during their seven years with us.

With a top-ranking university on our doorstep, we are able to tap into a rich intellectual, creative and sporting world beyond our campus. Our newly configured cross-foundation sports department boasts some of the best athletes in the country including international netball, basketball, cricket and hockey players, and we have numerous connections in the fields of STEM and the arts.

I joined the school just over two years ago and love the energy, warmth and sense of fun that defines our community. I could not be prouder of the way that pupils and staff have risen to the challenges of the pandemic, from providing an outstanding virtual learning experience to developing student-led wellbeing initiatives. Now that we are back on site, I love watching the spontaneous games of football and cricket on the lawn outside my office, hearing the unselfconscious laughter at break and lunch, and seeing the freedom that girls have to simply enjoy being girls.

I do hope that you will visit us soon to experience all of this for yourself. I will be delighted to meet you in person.
