Loughborough High School has been awarded the prestigious 360 Degree Safe E-Safety Mark, which accredits schools for meeting the highest standards in internet safety. It is currently the only school in Leicestershire to hold the accreditation. The award follows our 1:1 iPad deployment to all staff and students, blending traditional learning with digital engagement. With all 600 pupils equipped with iPads, education in how to use technology responsibly in the classroom and beyond is a vital part of the curriculum and raising parents’ and carers’ awareness of e-safety is equally important to the school. The accreditation was awarded following a thorough review process. The school presented detailed evidence to meet the demanding criteria in every area of e-safety, including policy and leadership, infrastructure, education and monitoring. This was followed by verification through a rigorous assessment visit.

The assessment team met pupils, teaching and technical staff, parents and the governor with responsibility for e-safety. They were impressed by the school’s development of a safe digital learning environment. James Garnett, the reporting assessor, said: “I would strongly recommend that people visit this school to see how their approach is led from the top, and how they have integrated e-safety into their personal, social and health education programme.”

He also commended the development of a strategy of ownership of actions and consequences by the pupils which leads to users who take responsibility for their behaviour online. The school will continue to work in partnership with pupils and parents to meet the challenges of rapidly changing technology and spread good practice in e-safety.

Ron Richards, Lead Assessor for the 360 Degree Safe E-Safety Mark, congratulated the school on its success and commented that it was re-assuring to know that the school had put a lot of thought and effort into improving the online safety of young people and staff by addressing these important safeguarding issues.
