PA Diwali Party
The Loughborough High School Parents’ Association Diwali Party was a fantastic night with great entertainment, fabulous colour, amazing food and wonderful company!
Diwali represents the triumph of light over darkness, and knowledge over ignorance. It is a time to let light shine within yourself, and also to shine the light outwards; the night did just that! With singing, dancing and music from our performers aged 11-18, they showcased their talents and enacted the return of Lord Rama and his wife Sita to their kingdom, following the defeat of the demon, ten headed Ravanda by Rama and the monkey army general, Hanuman and the rescue of Sita from his evil clutches. There were performances of traditional Bharatanatyam and Kathak dancing and also a medley of Bollywood musicals which were simply stunning.
Diwali is a family-orientated festival and the atmosphere at the party was buzzing. Everybody, and we do mean everybody, came dressed for the occasion ready to party and celebrate! “The Photo Booth” with props and colorful backdrop provided the perfect welcome, a chance to mingle and to capture that special selfie or group shot before sitting down to a fabulous traditional Diwali buffet with family and friends, both old and new. The dance floor was never empty with ‘Rhythm Sounds’ keeping everyone on their feet and joining in traditional dances and even a conga!
It was the LHS Parents’ Association first Diwali Party and it was an amazing night, made possible by the support, time and generosity of decorations from a cadre of families, who created a wonderful traditional setting full of colour and lights.
There was an overwhelming demand for tickets and the event sold out early. At the end of the evening, the words on everyone’s lips were “when is it happening next year?” Well, The Diwali festival is based on the Hindu lunar calendar and takes place in October or November, depending on the cycle of the moon. In 2020, Diwali is on November 14. So…watch this space for a date announcement…and a bigger space!
