The Recital Hall in the music department was overflowing with an expectant audience and excited performers for this year’s Keyboard and Chamber Music concert. Over fifty pupils between Year 5 and Year 13 from all four schools were involved in this showcase of our chamber music ensembles. Our Wind Dectet opened the concert with a lively rendition of Il Signor Crescendo! (an arrangement of Rossini’s music), and there were several piano duet partnerships who between them performed Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite as well as other duet music. We have a really thriving chamber music scene, and the audience also heard from our Fuoco String Quartet, Volante String Quartet, Trio Presto, Harker String Quartet, Con Brio String Quartet and our senior Briggs Piano Quartet who performed Frank Bridge’s Phantasy for Piano Quartet in F sharp minor with poise and maturity. Other composers featured were Khachaturian (Trio for clarinet, Violin and Piano), Beethoven, David Stone and the grand finale of the concert was Milhaud’s Scaramouche Suite for two pianos, with three pairs of pianists bringing the evening to a dramatic close.
