Year 12 LHS and LGS Psychology students travelled to the Emmanuelle Centre in London for the annual A level conference to attend talks from very prominent experts in various fields of psychology. Professor David Wilson, leading criminologist introduced students about the different ways of understanding the phenomenon of serial murders. His particular focus was on the study of Jack the Ripper, which coincides with a documentary he is involved in, which is due to be aired on the BBC on 4th April. LHS students had the opportunity to meet actress Emilia Fox who has worked closely with Professor Wilson on this project and will be a key presenter in the documentary. LGS and LHS students also had the opportunity to meet Professor Elizabeth Loftus who is one of the foremost psychologists in cognitive psychology as well as being the most well know female psychologists ever! She delivered a very interesting talk on the malleability of memory and false memory syndrome as well as passing on some very useful tips to students about the real secrets of successful revision. The day after, a simulated court case was held at LHS covering a mock murder case, enabling the students to look at psychological profiling involved in such cases. This was presided over by LHS Alumna and now Barrister, Fiona Clegg. Altogether a very exciting and stimulating couple of days!
