Pastoral, Health and Wellbeing
At the Grammar School, we aim to nurture each boy into a happy, aspirational and world ready individual who is equipped with a strong moral compass.
By doing so, we empower the boys to become the best versions of themselves, equipping them with the skills they need to make confident, meaningful and positive contributions to society, in the service of others.
"Pupils develop self-assurance and by the time they leave school they are ‘world-ready’, in line with the school’s aim."
Our staff are passionate about helping each boy to maximise his happiness, character and potential giving him just the right amount of support and guidance which allows him to work towards his aspirations. There can be no doubt that the academic and personal success of the boys is founded in the excellent pastoral care of the School.
During the Autumn Term of Year 7, after some fun activities to get to know the boys’ strengths, each boy is assigned a House. This House is their pastoral identity and the ‘go to’ place at School for Years 8 – 13.
There are four houses each with their own Tutors, ethos and identity and a House base within the school grounds.
Each House has a Housemaster who oversees the boys, knows each boy and works through the Tutors to deliver the very best care possible for LGS boys and their families. The Houses also provide plenty of opportunity for fun and inter-house competitions where families come along and join in the fun too.

From the first day boys join Loughborough Grammar School, they are inspired to be the best they can be. Often shown around by an older boy who role models positivity and academic curiosity.
The youngest boys are cared for and introduced to our school by a thorough induction programme. Pastoral staff at LGS get to know every young boy and ensure they make good friendships, know where they are going and to speak up and ask for help when they are stuck.
In their time with us, the boys learn so much about themselves. What they like. Who they are and are. Boys discover their strengths and weaknesses and get to know how to make the best of their skills and talents. They learn to succeed from any failures and to be proud of their many successes. We believe every pupil should develop self-assurance and confidence and by the time they leave school they should be world-ready young men.
"Pupils are well supported by staff and older pupils so that they feel part of the school community. Pupils remain in the same pastoral groups for the majority of their time at school, and this helps build trust and support amongst those of the same age."
Health and Wellbeing Support
At Loughborough Grammar School there is no stigma associated with accessing help and we are fortunate to have specialist professionals that can support with physical, emotional, social and mental health issues that the boys might face. The school is a supportive network where boys are actively encouraged to talk about stressors and concerns with adults they trust.
Our experienced School Nurses and Counsellors offer health and wellbeing support during the school day and oversee a suite of private accommodation that the boys can access. The Designated Safeguarding Leads are specialists in manging concerns about boy’s wellbeing, personal and contextual safety.
The Director of Personal Development coordinates a contemporary and dynamic personal development curriculum designed to ensure the boys can make positive choices with regards to their wellbeing and health.
