Loughborough Schools Foundation’s Combined Cadet Force (CCF) land first place at the regional Royal Air Squadron Trophy competition

Showing an exemplary display of teamwork and skill, cadets from across the Loughborough Schools Foundation (LSF) competed at the Regional Royal Air Squadron Trophy competition on 2 February and scooped first place at the prestigious event.
The team, consisting of 11 cadets from Loughborough Grammar School and 3 from Loughborough High School, has now secured its place in the National Finals on 23 March where they will aim to defend last year’s title as the top CCF RAF section in the UK.
The Royal Air Squadron Trophy Competition was created in 1998 as a way for CCF Royal Air Force sections to contest the Royal Air Squadron Trophy. The national event brings together CCF sections from the best schools across the UK where cadets face stiff competition in regional heats including shooting, uniform and drill, RAF knowledge, first aid, leadership and teamwork, and aircraft knowledge.
The cadets excelled in many of their events during the regional heats including Cyber and Aircraft Recognition, Command Task, Airfield Defence, Space and Shooting, all of which have been the perfect warm-up ahead of the National Finals next month.
Major Ben Ward, Contingent Commander of Loughborough Schools Foundation, said: “Our cadets continue to impress with their dedication, teamwork, and perseverance. Their success in this competition reflects their hard work and commitment, and we are incredibly proud of what they have accomplished.”
The CCF is an educational partnership between Loughborough Schools Foundation and the Ministry of Defence, and the Foundation operates Royal Navy, Army, and Royal Air Force sections. Alongside the three military sections, LSF also offer Corps of Drums as a lunchtime club. Whichever section a student joins, they will quickly build important qualities such as teamwork, confidence and self-discipline, as well as later having the opportunity to take on leadership roles.
