An academic curriculum can open doors - but it’s what happens outside the classroom that allows young men walk through them and thrive.
The term ‘Co-curricular’ refers to everything that takes place outside of the classroom. Here at Loughborough Grammar School Co-curricular activities provide a vital component of a rounded education as well as form a major strand of our pastoral care as well. Therefore it is often referred to as co- rather than extra-. We ensure every boy is involved in all areas of the School in a bid to enable the development of useful transferable skills and attributes that will help them with the next step of their life. This means sportsmen stand on stages and musicians are involved in STEM. In order to reward the facilitation of these, we have devised The Thomas Burton Award.
The list below are examples the type of activities that boys can get involved in. There are also details of other larger areas of Co-curricular such as Sport, Drama, CCF and trips. Our Music department offers over 50 groups and ensembles. You do not need to have your instrumental lessons at School to be able to join these.
As well as breadth we think it essential to facilitate depth. We aspire for each pupil to leave here with at least one passion. Each department, both curricular and co-curricular, has developed a pathway to help pupils and parents see the range of activities that are available.
