We are delighted to announce that work has now started on the exciting refurbishment of the Loughborough Grammar School Tower complex.

Much more than just a lick of paint, this extensive full-scale project includes a huge face-lift for the Sixth Form Centre, transforming it into a light and bright environment for both socialising and working. The university-style surroundings will promote collaborative working and will also provide individual workstations as well as meeting spaces.

Whilst the existing Sixth Form Centre provided a social space, café at break times and academic work zones, the newly refurbished centre will boast all this and more, creating a modern and fresh environment for Loughborough Grammar Sixth Form boys to enjoy.

The project has now kicked off in earnest and once the complex has been completely stripped out, subsequent work will include new paintwork, fitting of a new staircase and installation of a feature ceiling, designed to provide more light to the area.

Helen Foster, Head of Loughborough Grammar School, said: “We’re very excited about the start of this project. It has so much to offer our Sixth Formers; the new space will provide the perfect environment for work, rest and play. Whilst it will be a much nicer place for the boys to socialise, the newly created spaces will also provide a professional atmosphere for collaborative working and meetings, giving our Sixth Formers a taste of what to expect at university and in the world of work.”

The Shepherd Family

The refurbishment has been made possible thanks to a legacy gift from Arthur Shepherd (LGS 1912-1914). Many of the Shepherd Family were educated at the Foundation’s schools and Arthur will be represented by members of the family at the opening of the Sixth Form Centre on 17 September 2024.
