What a trip! On Wednesday, 18 September, Year 5 set off for a brilliant three days in Conwy. Our goal? To have loads of fun, try new things, and learn all about the wonderful nature along the coast. And we definitely weren’t disappointed!

We stayed at the Conwy YHA, our cosy base for an action-packed few days. Here’s a look at some of the fun we got up to:

Kayaking with a View (and a Netflix surprise!)

Picture this: kayaking on a calm lake with the stunning Snowdonia mountains in the background. Sounds like a dream, doesn’t it? Well, it gets even better… While we were paddling, we spotted a TV crew filming nearby (turns out Netflix was in town!). Sadly, the rumoured Hemsworth brothers didn’t make an appearance, though we kept our eyes peeled just in case!

Gorge Walking Through ‘The Elephant’s Bottom’

We also had time for some gorge walking at Avon Du, the Black River. We waded through the river, splashing around before tackling a scramble up a section cheekily nicknamed ‘the elephant’s bottom’. The children took it all in their stride, and there were plenty of laughs along the way!

Bird Spotting and Pond Dipping

We headed to the RSPB Centre, where we did a bit of bird spotting and pond dipping. Our keen-eyed explorers found all sorts of creatures, including some of the biggest water beetles in the UK!

Castle Tour with a Musical Twist

Our trip to Conwy Castle was made extra special thanks to our brilliant guide, Rhian. She shared loads of fascinating history, and even treated us to a rendition of the Welsh national anthem! Who knew we’d get a history lesson and a concert all in one go?

Mountain Walk and a Spectacular Sunset

Mrs Alves led us on a hike up Conwy Mountain, sharing her interesting facts about the trees and wildlife we passed. And to top it off, we were lucky enough to witness a stunning sunset, followed by the rare sight of a harvest ‘blood moon’ on our return. Talk about perfect timing!

Beach Fun (and ice cream, of course!)

No seaside trip would be complete without a day at the beach! We paddled in the sea, built massive sandcastles, dug huge holes, and even found crabs and jellyfish. We made sure to leave the beach looking spotless too, picking up litter as we went. Naturally, we finished the day with ice creams all around—because what’s a beach day without one?

All in all, we had a fantastic time, and we’re already looking forward to next year’s trip! Until then, we’ll be reminiscing about the castles, kayaking, and that famous scramble up ‘the elephant’s bottom’.
