Elms School Tournament

On Friday 6th October the U10 Girls played in the annual Elms School Tournament. Spurred on by their recent results, the girls were determined to put in a good performance and from the first whistle it was evident that they meant business. The first pool match was against Pennine Way who put in a sterling performance in trying to contain the Fairfield attack. However, they eventually succumbed and Fairfield were rewarded with a well taken goal, closely followed by their second. Confidence high and spirits soaring, the next match against Highfields proved to be more challenging but with excellent teamwork and communication the girls came out with another 2-0 victory. With two wins under their belt the team then prepared to face their toughest challengers in their group; a well-drilled Spratton Hall. A competitive and very much end to end game ensued and, after what seemed a very long ten minutes, the score on the final whistle was 1-1. Our previous pool results secured a top of the table finish on goal difference, securing a place in the final against Nottingham High Girls’ School. This match proved less tricky and unlike the score line suggests, Fairfield won with a convincing 1-0 score line. A super afternoon of hockey and one which saw the girls justly rewarded for a fantastic display of hockey as a result of super team work. Many thanks to all the supporters who took time out to give such wonderful support and to Mrs Love for all her help and encouragement, it was greatly appreciated. Fairfield were delighted to receive their Winners’ medals and shield and well done to Jessica who also received an award for being one of the Players of the Tournament. A super tournament of competitive hockey played out with excellent sportsmanship, well done girls!
