East Area Prep School Athletics

The East Area Athletics Competition was held at Bedford International Athletics Stadium, a fabulous arena for the children to perform in! The children had mixed emotions of excitement at competing on such a stage and nerves, how would they fair against their peers from all over East Anglia and the Midlands. Thanks to Mrs Gohill we set up camp in the sports hall, venturing out to the track to cheer each other on and prepare for the events, the weather was really that bad! Despite the conditions the children’s spirits could not be dampened and they produced some outstanding performances. Several competitors just missed out on a top 2 position with centimetres and hundredths of seconds in it! All the children cheered each other on willing them over the line and to throw further. The children’s outstanding performances were rewarded with a number of them qualifying for the National Finals; Annie javelin, Anthony 200m, Ruby 100m and long jump, Sam discus, Tiérnan javelin and the girls 4x100m relay. This is a tremendous achievement for all the children with every member of the squad coping admirably with the awful conditions. They were an absolute credit to the school and a delight to spend the day with. Thank you to Mrs Gohill for her support and TLC throughout the day.
