Martyn Gidley (LGS 1987) PE teacher and cricket coach at LSF will be joining the England team to take on Australia in the Over 50s Ashes later this month in three, one-day matches.

Martyn is no stranger to professional cricket, having played professionally for Leicestershire County Cricket Club, and also for Free State and Griqualand West in South African provincial cricket. He was part of the England Over 50s team that won the World Cup last year, and recently he captained the England side in their match against Ireland last month, in which England won by nine wickets.

Martyn said: “It’s such an honour to be picked to play and represent the country; I’m really looking forward to it. Loughborough Grammar School has been really supportive in enabling this opportunity, and I’ve had lots of support from the boys and staff, who no doubt will be watching!”

Earlier this month, (5 June) Martyn appeared live on BBC Radio Leicester in an interview with Ady Dayman about his recent cricketing success, he talked about his love of cricket and how he cannot wait to represent his country again. He described it as a ‘dream come true’ playing for England and Captaining the Over 50’s Team to win in the recent match against Ireland.
