In May 2024, we welcomed Stuart Swan into the Development and Alumni Engagement Team as Director of Development and Alumni Engagement for the Loughborough Schools Foundation. Stuart joins us after working in the Development Office at Swansea University for the last 11 years. During his first month in post, he  attended the Loughburians’ London Dinner and several alumni committee meetings. Stuart will meet as many alumni as possible during his first few months to hear more about your school memories and what the school means to you.

We have been finding out a little bit more about Stuart and his future priorities for the role.

Tell us a bit about yourself.

I have just joined LSF after 11 fantastic years in a university development office. During that time, I have worked with a wide range of alumni, building professional relationships and providing them with opportunities to reconnect. I love hearing how education has shaped people, both professionally and personally, and I am passionate about advancing social mobility through the provision of educational bursaries.

What are you most looking forward to about your role working within the Development Office at LSF?

I’m excited to meet as many alumni as possible in the coming months. I’m looking forward to hearing stories about your time at school and exploring ways that you can get involved with everything that’s going on in Loughborough. One of my key goals is to make sure that our vibrant community works together to ensure a prosperous future for all our schools, and that anyone who wants to be a part of that future has the opportunity to do so.

What are your priorities for the next 6 to 12 months?

I’ll be spending a lot of time getting to know alumni, donors and friends over the next year or so, and talking to you about the ways you can reconnect. Please do sign up for one of our fantastic events and come say hello!

What do you do on your days off?

I have a young son so my days off are usually spent at the side of a football pitch, on the tennis courts or reading books. There are certainly no dull moments! In my own time, I enjoy getting out for a round of golf or a day out in the countryside.

What are you most proud of from your career so far?

I’m hugely passionate about education and impact, so I’m most proud of the difference philanthropy has made to the lives of young people. I’ve worked with several donors who have given people the life changing gift of a top-class education, then seen the recipients flourish in both their studies and early careers. Seeing lives transformed through philanthropy is incredibly powerful, and it’s an area I’m extremely proud to work in.
