A-Level Success

The format of A-Level Results Day has certainly changed over the years. Coming into school bright and early in the morning to nervously open your envelope seems to mostly be a thing of the past. Now, students can receive their results on their phones without even having to leave their bedroom (still with the same number of nerves though). One thing that has not changed are the anxious and sleepless nights leading up to the day and I am sure this is an experience many of you, along with your parents, can remember.  

Despite receiving their results digitally, it was great to see so many of our newest alumni on campus sharing their results with their friends and teachers. With the amount of happy and smiling faces we saw; we are pleased to report that the results have been incredible.  

At the Grammar School, 54% of grades were at A* or A with 11 boys achieving an outstanding clean sweep of A* grades. 

At the High School, 58% of grades were at A* or A. Overall, this year’s results are the best they have been (excluding the Covid years of 2020 and 2021) since 2013. 

At Amherst, 65% of grades were A*-B and the majority of leavers have been accepted at their first choice of university.  

Following her A Level results, Hannah is over the moon to have achieved A*A*A and her goal of studying Medicine. Her mother was keen to add her thanks to the staff and students who have helped Hannah to achieve her dreams.

So many of our newest alumni are now headed off to university, with an impressive number taking up spaces at Oxbridge, and other Russell Group universities.

However, university is not all that is on the cards for our alumni, other plans include Police, Army, Apprenticeships and Gap Years.  

Robin is all set to study Biological Sciences at Durham. Receiving his A Level results yesterday he achieved 5 A* (including the EPQ)! Robin’s mother said how proud she was and how proud his grandmother would have been who achieved her PhD in the 1950s.

Alumni generosity has had a transformative effect on young people’s futures. We are pleased to share our donor funded Sixth Form bursary recipients have all flourished with us. They embraced the many opportunities on offer including taking up positions of leadership and responsibility and performed well in their A-Level examinations. We look forward to following their progress at university! 

Dr Julian Murphy shared with us the outstanding results from the Loughborough Amherst School Sixth Form Bursary recipient: 

“This year, our local Sixth Form bursary recipient has achieved three A* grades at A Level and gained a place to read Biomedical Sciences at the University of Oxford. She follows in the footsteps of previous recipients of this financial support, who have all gained places at either Oxford or, in one case, Imperial College London. Finances permitting, we look forward to continuing to support young people from local state sector schools in a similar fashion for years to come.”

We are so grateful to have welcomed such an amazing group of individuals to the alumni community and we want to wish them the absolute best with their future endeavours.
