Quincentennial Golf Trophy – 8 July 2017

The Quincentennial Trophy was held in beautiful sunshine at Rothley Park Golf Club on Saturday 8 July and the event was well attended by a very healthy 22 OL’S which a little disappointingly only included 5 non Rothley members. (For those non Rothley members not taking part, this competition is very well organised, the course is always in excellent condition and the halfway house food is suberb, it’s always worth the effort to play, so please try and schedule this event in to your diary for future years. We are planning for it to be the second Saturday in July in future.)

The total number of OL’s playing was pleasing but there are several Rothley members that appear only to play in this event, so this is a plea to those Rothley members to try and get along to one or more of the other OL events as they are all well organised at good local courses and we always have a lot of fun.

On to the results of the day when scoring was difficult because some of the flag positions were more than a little testing, but the winner of the OL Quincentennial Trophy on a local rule (best last 3 holes as both players scored the same on the back 9 and last 6 holes) was Tom Morgan with 37 points who just pipped Russell Pytches who also had 37 points. The third placed OL was Nick Hardy with 36 points.

You will recall from our last report that the Old Boys scratch team qualified for the Grafton Morrish finals, which will be held at Hunstanton and Brancaster (Royal West Norfol Golf Club) 29 September to 1 October 2017. Good luck to the team and we hope they can progress deep into the finals over that weekend and any support is always welcome.

We then have the Autumn meeting on the afternoon of 3 October at Longcliffe, followed by our end of season Dinner, so we hope that you can all come along for that event.

The final event of the year is our annual handicap match against Notts High School Old Boys on the afternoon of 19 October, where we need to redress the balance from losing the match last year on our home patch. This year the match is at one of England’s finest (if not the finest) inland golf course – Hollinwell, and the golf will be followed by the trophy presentation (a new trophy that we play for each year) and a 2 Course meal.

I look forward to seeing as many of you that can make it as possible at The Autumn Meeting & the match v Old Nottinghamians.

The programme of events is included on The Loughburians website together with an entry form that you can email to me at davebarnett25@hotmail.com
