OL CHRIS BRISTOW AND TEAM BATH RACING

Chris Bristow (OL 05-12) is currently in his final year of a masters degree in mechanical engineering with automotive at the University of Bath.

Over the last year and a half he has been a member of Team Bath Racing, the University’s leading Formula Student Team, comprised of 20 final year undergraduate engineering students. They have been the top UK team for the past 3 years, and last year became the first UK team to win a Formula Student event anywhere in the world.  As a result, they are currently ranked 5th in the world out of 550 combustion teams.  Maintaining this success requires a great deal of dedication and commitment from every team member, working full-time hours alongside completing their degrees. Being part of Team Bath Racing is an incredible educational experience that cannot be taught in lectures.

As well as remarkable cars, the team produces exceptional engineers. Graduates from Team Bath Racing use the range of skills gained on the project to go on to excel at some of the most prestigious companies in the Engineering sector as well as many other industries, from teaching to banking and finance.

Every member of the team shares a passion for motorsport and a determination to succeed. Their goal this season reflects this drive as they aim to become the first UK team to ever win the prestigious home event at Silverstone in July, before competing for more podiums in Europe. However, education is key to their success, and they are equally passionate about developing the engineers of the future. They regularly organise outreach events to promote STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) in schools across the country.

Alongside commitment and hard work running the team requires a large amount of sponsorship, and Team Bath Racing have set up a crowdfunding campaign running between 31st March and 30th of April this year to raise funds to attend the UK Formula Student event in mid July.
