The last week before half-term has been full of activity across the Loughborough Schools Foundation campus as students and staff members alike celebrated Culture Week.

From whole School assemblies to tailored lunch menus offering a different cuisine each day of the week and a vast array of lunchtime workshops to take part in, pupils have benefitted from the opportunity to explore a wide variety of cultures and customs.

At Loughborough Amherst School, breaktimes have offered the chance for pupils to try a range of foods from across the globe at the cultural snack sale whilst lunchtimes have seen lots of different workshops take place. Sessions have included Polish arts and crafts, shortbread baking, Origami, Calligraphy and French cheese tasting.

A particularly popular session, the French cheese tasting workshop invited pupils to sample a range of traditional French cheeses and challenged them to distinguish the French cheese from its British counterpart. Whilst noting down their answers on a scorecard, pupils discovered new flavours and perhaps a new favourite cheese!

Loughborough Grammar School also offered pupils an extensive programme of events with multiple lunchtime workshops taking place each lunchtime. From making Hong Kong neon lights to learning about Spanish culture, sampling Greek food and taking part in Scottish Highland Games, the School was a hub of activity.

Pupils also enjoyed a bespoke Culture Week school lunch menu and the opportunity to try different cuisines from around the world every lunchtime. The week’s menu included chicken tagine, lamb koftas, Thai green chicken curry, chicken gyros and quesadillas.

Alongside their Culture Week themed assembly, Loughborough High School held a culture-themed bake sale at the beginning of the week, giving pupils the chance to try snacks from around the globe.

The High School also held its very own danceathon to conclude the week which invited pupils to dance along to songs from different countries. Pupils were also encouraged to wear cultural dress, colours or a country’s flag that they are connected to via heritage.

It was fantastic to see all Loughborough Schools Foundation schools embrace the week, offering pupils a wealth of new experiences and opportunities.
