Starting this September, our Year 10 students will have the chance to earn half GCSE by completing a Higher Project Qualification alongside the Combined Cadet Force (CCF). The CCF is a partnership between our school and the Ministry of Defence, offering students invaluable experiences across three distinct sections: the Royal Navy, the Army, and the Royal Air Force.

Why Join the CCF?

Joining the CCF isn’t just about earning a qualification; it’s about developing crucial life skills. Whether students choose the Royal Navy, Army, or RAF section, they’ll rapidly build teamwork, confidence, and self-discipline. Furthermore, there are numerous opportunities for students to step into leadership roles, enhancing their personal and professional growth.

What Each Section Offers

The Royal Navy Section:
For those drawn to the sea, the Royal Navy section is a perfect fit. Cadets sail as much as possible during the warmer months, often returning to school later in the afternoon (typically between 17:00 and 18:00). This section is ideal for students who love adventure and enjoy challenging themselves in a maritime environment.

The Army Section:
Focused on basic infantry fieldcraft tactics, team building, and rifle skills, the Army section is perfect for those interested in land-based military activities. Army cadets are integral to the prestigious Patrols Platoon and the school’s shooting team, providing them with unique and competitive experiences.

The RAF Section:
Aimed at those fascinated by aviation, the RAF section offers cadets the chance to get airborne at least once a year, often in gliders or light aircraft. Enthusiastic cadets can even earn solo flying wings and a private pilot’s licence through a Flying Scholarship. Ground training in this section covers leadership, principles of flight, and comprehensive knowledge of the RAF.

The Benefits of CCF Participation

Being part of the CCF means students will:

  • Develop leadership and teamwork skills
  • Build confidence and self-discipline
  • Engage in unique and challenging activities
  • Work with peers from across the school foundation
  • Have the opportunity to take on leadership roles
