Chris Perham, 23, is currently working as a Graduate Sports Assistant, at Loughborough Amherst School.

After completing his Degree at Loughborough University, Chris joined Amherst, one of the four schools that make up the Loughborough Schools Foundation, in September 2018 to gain teaching experience while he continues full-time training as a triathlete.

Chris started his competitive sports career as a swimmer, aged 11 and only progressed to Triathlon aged 16. Since then he has gone from strength to strength. Currently ranked 12th in Europe and 108th in the world, Chris will be competing at the U23 European Championship in Eilat, Israel on 20/21 October, where he hopes to improve his position both in the European and the World rankings.

Pupils and staff at Loughborough Amherst School will be following his progress with interest when he competes in the individual competition. The GB team is comprised of four men and four women and the two fastest men and women in the individual competition will then combine to represent GB on Sunday 21 October in the team relay.

Whilst at the School, Chris has worked hard with Head of PE, Mrs Emma Hopper and Jack Hall of Team Triumph to set up, the first school triathlon club, for Loughborough Schools Foundation. Whilst still in its infancy the club, open to Prep children up to and including Year 7, has been extremely popular and is already oversubscribed. The aim of the club is to nurture a passion for the sport and to hone young athletes to compete and progress through the levels.

Chris and his colleagues in the PE department at Amherst School are hoping to eventually establish a pathway of progression into an academy with links with British Triathlon, the National Federation, who are based at Loughborough University.

Emma Hopper, said, “Chris has been a great addition to the PE team and our pupils are already entering and performing well in triathlons. This is a great opportunity for the pupils and the school to get involved and support an elite athlete.”
