Triumph at the U16 Championships

We are thrilled that Hugo and Eva have won the boys and girls U16 Junior National Championships 2021 at Surbiton Tennis Club.

Hugo beat the fourth seed, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 to secure the title while Eva showed why she was the pre-tournament favourite (and British No. 1) as she prevailed 6-3, 6-3, against an unseeded player.

Following these victories both Hugo and Eva have qualified for the main draw of Junior Wimbledon at the All England Lawn Tennis Club in July.

“To play at Wimbledon is a dream come true to be honest,” said Hugo. “I’ve always dreamt of playing at Wimbledon. Also, to have the home support will be brilliant.”

Triumphs at the U18 Championships

Eva has also been crowned champion in the 18 & Under Girls, LTA Junior National Championships. This amazing victory means that she has secured a wild card into qualifying for The Championships, Wimbledon.

The event, which took place on the grass courts of Surbiton Tennis Club, saw 138 junior players from across the country compete for the boys and girls national titles in singles and doubles. Winning the national junior title has traditionally been a stepping stone on the journey to becoming a professional for the country’s leading players, with the roll of honour including such names as Andy Murray, Heather Watson, Kyle Edmund, Dan Evans, Anne Keothavong and Tim Henman.

Eva played in the final against Kylie, who both train at the National Tennis Academy at Loughborough University as part of the LTA’s Performance Pathway and who board at Loughborough Amherst School. It was a double celebration for Eva after she had won the U16 event the previous week.

After claiming her latest national title, Eva said: “Today’s match was a tough fight but I thought I performed really well. In the first set she came out quite strong which put me under pressure but then I started to play some of my best tennis.
