GCSE

Whilst studying Religious Studies you will develop an enquiring, critical and sympathetic approach to the study of at least two living religions (Judaism and Christianity) and how they express themselves in individual and social life.

You will be introduced to the challenging and varied nature of religion, and to the ways in which this is reflected in experience, belief and practice. You will identify and explore questions about the meaning and purpose of life and consider such questions in relation to religious traditions. You will have to produce evidence and arguments to support your points of view on religious concepts, beliefs and practices.

Religious Studies is a compulsory GCSE.

A Level

This is an exciting course that is challenging and far reaching. Even though this A Level is entitled Religious Studies it could easily be described as Philosophy and Ethics. The main topics studied are an introduction to ethics and philosophy.

This subject should appeal to anyone with an inquiring and critical mind. Many of the skills gained in the study of philosophy and ethics will be transferable to other A Level subjects: critical thinking, evaluative and debating skills. You need to have an interest in the abstract and not hold any preconceived opinions. It is important to have a questioning mind, be an independent thinker and be able to think outside the box. There will also be the opportunity to attend conferences, symposiums and lectures at a variety of places. Past students have gone on to study medicine, law, teaching, journalism, media studies, music, business or joined the services.
