Recently Year 11 pupil Maud joined four other hopeful shortlisted authors in attending the Leicester Writes, Leicester Book Prize award ceremony at The Exchange in Leicester.

Maud wrote her book, Neon Sky, as a way of raising funds to support the Go MAD in Tanzania charity, which she is going out to visit later in the summer. Everyone volunteering on the project needs to contribute £300, there are eight volunteers in her group and they wanted to fund a large water tank, costing approximately £2,400. Having a very natural aversion to washing cars Maud struck upon playing to her strengths and passion, writing, to generate her £300.

Since publishing Neon Skyshe has already sold out of the first edition. Initially surprised by the success of the book she is now delighted with how well it has been received. To have her book listed as one of four finalists in the Leicester Book Prize and to be the youngest finalist has been a great boost to her confidence, in spite of not being crowned overall winner.

As the sales of the book continue to grow, so too does the fund for supporting Go MAD Tanzania and they are now hoping to reach a total amount of £5,000. Congratulations to Maud for, as she puts it ‘doing the brave thing!’ she is certainly an author to watch for the future.

Well done Maud. For more information about Maud’s book or to purchase a copy of Neon Skypriced at £7.99, please email her publisher at press@packmanspuzzel.co.uk
