Last night’s Prize Giving was a beautiful, intimate affair with a select 31 prize winners and their parents. Awards were presented to pupils from the Preparatory department up to our departing Year 13s.  After the Head’s welcome address, Phoebe and Evie from Prep read ‘#IAmherst’ beautifully, leading into the presentation of the Minerva Awards by Anna Murphy, Chair of Governors. Ayeka entertained everyone with Rojo y Negro by Ramiro Gallo on violin before the guest speaker, past pupil Maud, shared her experiences ‘From Amherst to Oxford and Beyond’. This was followed by the presentation of the School Cups.

The Minerva awards are awarded to pupils who have consistently demonstrated resilience, perseverance and growth mindset in lessons, classwork and homework, with one awarded for each Senior subject.

Preparatory trophies were awarded for Fortitude, Perseverance and Presentation, whilst the Senior School trophies covered a range of areas including subjects, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, Environmental, Personal Growth and Appreciation.

Prize Giving ceremony drew to a close with a stunning rendition of The Sire of Sorrow by Joni Mitchell, courtesy of Evie, followed by thanks from Head Prefect Amy and Dr Murphy.

Parents and pupils were then invited to join together for canapes and drinks in the marquee whilst adhering to the current Covid guidelines. The whole evening was very well received by parents and pupils – many commenting that it was the best ever!
