Recently11 musicians from Loughborough Grammar SchoolLoughborough High School and Loughborough Amherst School competed for the title of the Loughborough School Foundation Musician of the Year. Each performer had received the highest place as an internal candidate in their respective category in the Loughborough Music Competitions the previous weekend.

The evening was an extraordinary exhibition of the highest quality solo music making. We were delighted to welcome Christopher Allsop as our adjudicator, and he had the tough job of picking the winner.

It was an evening to remember for the Grammar School Music Scholars, who took a clean sweep this year! Year 10 violist Simeon, who had won both the Strings Competition and the Piano Competition (15 and under) against some very impressive other performers at the weekend, was nominated for special mention for his performance of Rebecca Clarke’s Morpheus.

The runner-up was adjudicated to be Year 12 clarinettist Edward, who performed the first movement of Malcolm Arnold’s perky Sonatina

Our overall winner, and retaining his title as LSF Musician of the Year, was Year 13 cellist, Danushka for a simply mesmerising performance of Schumann’s Adagio and Allegro.
