Should I Apply?
Music Scholarships are available by audition in January to exceptional practical musicians, whether internal or external, instrumentalists or vocalists starting in Year 7, Year 9 or Year 12. They provide the framework for a comprehensive partnership between the pupil and School. Music Scholarships will be tenable for the duration of a pupil’s time at Loughborough Amherst School, subject to annual review, and comprise of individually tailored support with performance practice, music theory and aural skills, unrivalled ensemble experience and full access to the Enhanced Music Programme. Scholars must be enthusiastic and able musicians, who can demonstrate their passion for the subject as well as their technical skill. They will be mentored throughout their time at School to ensure they become the best musicians that they can be. Competition for scholarships is very fierce and they are strictly limited in number. Please note, there is no financial award associated with a scholarship. As music scholars progress through the school demonstrating commitment to the musical life of the school and making strong progress on their instrument, some subsidised extended instrumental tuition may form part of the scholarship.
What will the audition involve?
Auditions this year will be held remotely. Applicants will need to submit a recording, via a hyperlink to YouTube or similar video hosting site, of themselves playing a piece no longer than six minutes on their principal study, and a shorter piece on their second study (if appropriate) with their application. They should also submit a short unaccompanied song if singing is not one of their instruments. Recordings do not need to be professional quality and can be made using a smartphone or tablet. Applicants will be advised by Friday 15 January 2021 if they will be called to interview. This will also take place remotely, and login details will be included in the notification. During this interview applicants will be required to complete a short piece of sight reading and have a discussion about musical interests and experience with the Director of Music.

Closing date is Wednesday 13 January 2021 Interview dates will be Monday 25 January 2021.
