Back to Amherst School Sport

Our aim at Loughborough Schools Foundation is to develop confident pupils, with high self-esteem and a positive mind set. Physical activity and sport is a major part of this aspiration and the development of a new sports facility is an important keystone of our vision.

This vision for Sport and PE for pupils is simple: participation, engagement, variety, fitness and competitive success. We strive to ensure that every pupil has the opportunity to find an activity that inspires them to achieve their potential, at whatever that level may be, developing a lifelong pattern for Sport and physical activity.

At the same time, we wish to build on our outstanding School Sports success story, and to develop and support an Elite Sports programme. Our ambition is to become recognised as leading Schools in the area for both academic and sporting success.

Work is underway on a state-of-the-art Sports Centre, paving the way for pupils to discover the physical and mental benefits of staying active. The £3.5m project is due to be completed in Summer 2019 and is designed to be an exciting and accessible environment for all members of the community to participate in sports and develop their skills and fitness.

When open, it will include a multi-use Sports Hall, Fitness Suite with strength and cardio equipment, a Dance Studio and brand new Changing Rooms. We are aware that not all students enjoy traditional team games such as Hockey and Netball, and by the introduction of Badminton, Volleyball, Trampolining, Table Tennis, and Basketball, we aim to attract more students into a team environment. A dedicated space for Dance, Cheerleading, Gymnastics and general fitness combined with a Fitness Suite, offer opportunities to all students to find something that engages them, which will set a pattern of physical activity for life.
