Thea Demitriou

Acting Senior Deputy Head

I assumed the role of Acting Senior Deputy Head in September 2023, following my successful tenure as Acting Senior Deputy Head in April 2021. My previous role at Amherst was Deputy Head Pastoral and Designated Safeguarding Lead with the additional responsibility of Head of Sixth Form. My educational background includes training as a Business and Economics teacher at the Institute of Education in London. Prior to embarking on my teaching career, I held the position of Sponsored Marketing Executive within the Aerospace industry.

Throughout my professional journey, I have had the privilege of contributing to the success of various outstanding educational institutions, including Ashby Grammar School, a 14-19 School; Wyggeston Queen Elizabeth I College, a 16-18 College; and Beauchamp School, an 11-18 school.

My passion for education and unwavering enthusiasm for fostering opportunities for all learners drive my commitment to the field. I often find myself advocating the question, 'Why not?'—a personal philosophy that resonates in my life and work. Concurrently, I am dedicated to furthering my knowledge and expertise through part-time pursuit of a Master's degree in Educational Leadership at the University of Roehampton.

Outside of my professional endeavours, my personal life revolves around cherished values such as family, faith, and the culinary traditions of my Greek Cypriot heritage. In my capacity as a respite foster carer, my family and I actively engage in offering support and care to those in need.

I endeavour to maintain a work-life balance by incorporating the practice of Yoga into my routine, albeit a work in progress.
